About the Fingerboard Lookup Chart

The Fingerboard Lookup Chart is to assist the guitarist in reading music and in finding the location of specific notes in different areas of the fingerboard of the guitar. Knowing, for instance, that the note "e" may be played on the open first string, the 2nd string at the 5th fret, or the 3rd string at the 9th fret, and so on, allows you a creative flexibility in the realization of written music. Or, in the case of printed music which gives you a string label for a particular note, say the note "a" one line above the treble clef specified to be on the 2nd string (usually the number 2 with a circle around it), then you may quickly find from the Fingerboard Lookup Chart that this note is to be found on the 10th fret of the 2nd string. Just to make sure that you are clear on the concept, a photo of a guitar neck is included below the Fingerboard Lookup Chart, in the same orientation as the chart. Each treble staff represents a string of the guitar, in the same order as in the picture below.
