our home page for a complete description of our program.
The Guitarist's Fingerboard Lookup Chart is one of our most popular
web pages, visited by guitarists from all over the world. If you would like to
learn more about music theory on the guitar, consider coming to
sunny Mexico on your next vacation and taking some classes with us.
About the Fingerboard Lookup Chart
The Fingerboard Lookup Chart is to assist the guitarist in reading music
and in finding
the location of specific notes in different areas of the fingerboard of
the guitar. Knowing, for instance, that the note "e" may be played on
the open first string, the 2nd string at the 5th fret, or the 3rd string at
the 9th fret, and so on, allows you a creative flexibility in the realization
of written music. Or, in the case of printed music which gives you a string
label for a particular note, say the note "a" one line above the treble clef
specified to be on the 2nd string (usually the number 2 with a circle around it),
then you may quickly find from the Fingerboard Lookup Chart that this note is to
be found on the 10th fret of the 2nd string. Just to make sure that you are clear
on the concept, a photo of a guitar neck is included below the Fingerboard Lookup
Chart, in the same orientation as the chart. Each treble staff
represents a string of the guitar, in the same order as in the picture below.
