Guided Tours:
- San Miguel de Allende
- Guanajuato
- Dolores Hidalgo
A 25-year resident of San Miguel de Allende, Maria Teresa can show you the secrets not only of historic San Miguel de Allende,
but also of the nearby (and equally ancient and picturesque) towns of Dolores Hidalgo and Guanajuato. All three of these
towns figured prominently in the early events of the Mexican War of Independence from Spain beginning in 1810, and
all three were founded by the Spanish in the early 16th century and feature a wealth of colonial architecture.
Guanajuato is the state capital, and a university town. One of its most picturesque features is the network of old
mining tunnels that honeycomb the city, many of which are now the main thoroughfares, keeping traffic out of the
historic downtown.
Dolores Hidalgo was where the parish priest Miguel Hidalgo actually gave the famous "grito", or call
to arms, that began the 1810 revolution. Today it is famous for its many ice cream vendors, selling flavors
you never dreamed of, who surround the public square.
San Miguel de Allende is almost too well known to need introduction, but
you can read more about it here.
